| Background | |
| CD55 is a part of the RCA family characterized by 4-30 SCRs (short consensus repeats) in their plasma-exposed regions. CD55 is expressed mainly in malignant tumors and nevertheless functions as an inhibitor of the complement system. CD55 attaches to the cell membrane through glycophosphatidylinositol (GPI) anchor and acts as a receptor of various enteroviruses such as coxsackieviruses. | |
