| Introduction | |
| Interferon-beta 1a belongs to the type I family of interferons. IFNB1A binds to a heterodimeric receptor, known as the IFNα/β receptor (IFNAR) resulting in activation of various Jak/ STAT proteins. Activation of this signaling pathway leads to the stimulation of genes which inhibit viral infection and regulate MHC class I antigens. IFNB1A is mainly produced by fibroblasts and monocytes. On top of inhibiting viral infection, IFN beta is also involved in regulating and activating immune response against bacteria, parasite and tumor cells. Multiple sclerosis is characterized by a deficiency of IFN beta 1. | |

Please prevent freeze-thaw cycles. | |
