| HIV-1 circulating recombinant forms (CRFs) are part of viral recombinant lineages that play a major role in the global epidemic. HIV-1 CRF is 1 of 2 genes which dominate the epidemic in Burkina Faso. Multiple HIV-1 subtypes and circulating recombinant forms are known to cocirculate in Africa. In West Africa, the high prevalence of HIV-1 CRFand cocirculation of subtype Aand other complex intersubtype recombinants has been highly documented. Cocirculation of HIV-1 CRFstrain with other genetic subtypes may lead to novel and complex HIV-1 recombinants. | |
